Editorial & Publisher’s Note
Many years have elapsed since the last issue, Vol. 18 in 2017, when the publication of Folia malaysiana was to be transferred to Suriana Sdn Bhd, with the intention for it to become the journal of Suriana Botanic Conservation Gardens. This will be further explained in the lead article of this belated issue by Datuk Seri Lim Chong Keat, in his Capacity as publisher and Chairman of Suriana Sdn Bhd, and the Founder Director of the Conservation Gardens.
Three Zingiberaceae findings follow, by C.K. Lim: “Revalidation of the monotypic genus TonemoneC.K. Lim”; “Unravelling Uncertainties in Alpinia mutica Roxb., A. assimilisRidl. and A. latilabris Ridl., and the Recognition of Alpinia mutica Roxb. var lutea C.K.Lim”, and “Three New Alpinia Species from Peninsular Malaysia”. They are followed by “The Elevation of Musa berdiri, C.K. Lim & Meekiong, stat. nov.” – with co-author K. Meekiong.
Next, we are pleased to feature the comprehensive biography of “C.X. Furtado and his botanical contributions”, presented by his son Jose I. Furtado, with extensive references. An Annexe is attached with notes by C.K. Lim about the Furtado Arecaceae taxa. From Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Z. Ahmad Fitri and his co-authors contribute two accounts: “Notes on the distribution of Androtium astilum Stapf. (Amacardiaceae)”, and “Palms in the Forest Reserve of UKM, Bangi”. He follows with a belated tribute to the late Kamarudin Saleh, who was a mainstay of the herbarium KEP at FRIM. The publication of this journal has been supported as before by Heritage Research Sdn Bhd, with a further contribution from the Neoh Foundation (1979), both to be thanked and acknowledged – also the authors for their contributions. Back copies of Folia malaysiana will be available from Suriana Sdn Bhd on order while there are stocks. The authors and new taxa published and featured in each issue since the first in 2000 will be listed in a future issue.
